Moro reflex is one of the simple reflexes that can be made by the examiner or by the mother , the question here is what positive or negative moro reflex means , how it is done ? . First I will begin with the stimulus ( action made stimulate the appearance of moro reflex in the child .
Stimulus in moro reflex :
1- Dropping the head with the examiner's hand supporting the body of the baby , which is the stimulus used in the video .
2- Making a loud noise near the infant's ear .
3- Sudden drop of the blanket from underneath the infant .
Positive response :
It is response made indicating healthy child , the baby will extend the forearm and abduct the arms and extend its trunk , this is followed by flexion and adduction of the upper limb . All these actions are done when the hands and the fingers are widely opened and a cry follow these movements .
Clinical significance :
This indicates normal CNS development , its absence indicates serious CNS affection as cerebral injury . Normally this reflex is present till the 6th month and its persistence indicates mental retardation .
